This visualization uses data from the most recent release of ICE enforcement actions through mid October 2025
provided by the Deportation Data Project.
The data was obtained through FOIA requests and covers detentions, arrests, and other enforcement actions by
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The original Excel file contains detention records with two sheets. The data was processed in R to calculate monthly aggregations for each category (e.g., Entry Status, Final Charge, Gender) based on the "Book In Date Time" field.
The aggregated data was exported to a CSV file for visualization. For more details, see the Github repo where all processing code and files for this app are available.
This interactive tool displays monthly counts of detainees grouped by various categories. You can
select from 13 different categories (Entry Status, Detention Facility, Gender, Ethnicity, Final Charge, etc.)
and choose specific values within each category to compare trends over time. For more information about these categories,
refer to Deportation Data Project data codebook.
